Pocono Township Library to Close This Summer After 35 Years

The Pocono Township branch of the Eastern Monroe Public Library will close its doors this summer after 35 years of service. The closure comes as the township building relocates to the former Northampton Community College campus. The library system will expand Bookmobile services to meet local demand. The closure is set for July 3.

Dingmans Falls in Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area will be closed for the entire summer for construction. A bridge replacement and repairs to the observation area staircase will shut down all access, including roads and trails. The Bushkill Meeting Center will temporarily serve as the visitor center.

A Pennsylvania Senate committee has rejected a bill advanced by Democrats that would allow the sale of recreational cannabis at state-owned stores. The bill, which passed in the House, was voted down 7-3 by the Law & Justice Committee. Concerns arose that the state store model would stifle small businesses and create logistical challenges.

More than 400 illegal gambling devices were seized from dozens of locations across Pennsylvania, leading to felony charges against two companies. An 18-year-old is facing multiple felony charges after an alleged sexual assault at Great Wolf Lodge here in Scotrun. Walkin Rodriguez-Valenzuela was arrested following accusations by a 13-year-old girl, who reported the assault in a resort room. Rodriguez-Valenzuela is charged with rape, statutory sexual assault, and corruption of minors. The investigation is ongoing.

As we first told you on Monday, UPS is closing its Stroud Township distribution hub permanently at the end of this week. The customer center already shut down last summer. It’s part of a nationwide reconfiguration. Customers can still use local UPS access points in Stroudsburg, Bartonsville, and Tannersville.
