Public Assistance Fraud Sting Nets 103 People

One hundred and three people have been charged with public assistance fraud here in Pennsylvania, that according to the Office of State Inspector General. Of those, 102 face felony charges, while just one person is charged with a misdemeanor. The total restitution owed to the Commonwealth amounts to over $680,000. The charges stem from allegations that the defendants misrepresented their household circumstances to fraudulently receive benefits. Offenders face penalties of up to seven years in prison and disqualification from benefits.
