Penn Hills Resort Demolished

The historic Penn Hills Resort in Monroe County has been demolished after years of decline marked by fires and safety issues. Once known as a premier honeymoon destination, the resort opened in 1944 and was part of the Poconos’ rise as the “honeymoon capital of the world.” However, it closed in 2009 due to flooding and economic challenges. Local officials took action to secure the property and prevent further tragedies. Stroud Township has placed a lien on the property to recoup the demolition costs with interest.
