President Joe Biden has commuted the sentence of Michael Conahan, the former judge involved in the notorious “Kids for Cash” scandal. Conahan was sentenced to 17 years behind bars for accepting kickbacks to send juveniles to for-profit detention centers. His sentence was cut short though, as part of a broader executive clemency move affecting nearly 1,500 inmates. The “Kids for Cash” scheme devastated the lives of more than 2,500 youths in northeastern Pennsylvania.
