The monarch butterfly has officially been declared ‘endangered’ by the International Union for Conservation of Nature. Known for its orange-red wings and black veins, what was once a familiar sight here in Pennsylvania, is now headed toward extinction according to biologists. Milkweed is the only plant the monarchs will lay their eggs on, and the plant is being eradicated everywhere.
