State Police in Monroe County shot and killed a man Thursday. Police say just before 10am, troopers were called for a welfare check on Deer Drive North in Middle Smithfield Township. The 36-year-old man inside the house refused to open the door, and then unexpectedly ran out through the back door, carrying a rifle. Troopers then fired and hit him. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. The Monroe County District Attorney’s Office and state police are conducting a joint investigation.
