New York’s controversial congestion pricing toll began this Sunday, charging drivers $9 to enter Manhattan’s busiest areas during peak hours. The toll is $2.25 during off-hours. E-ZPass users will be charged on weekdays between 5 a.m. and 9 p.m. and weekends from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Pennsylvania State Police report a busy New Year’s weekend, investigating 425 crashes from December 31 to January 2. One person was killed, and 68 others were injured. Impaired driving contributed to 31 of the accidents. This year’s figures show a slight increase in crashes compared to last year, but fewer fatalities.

A fire broke out Saturday evening on Washington Street in East Stroudsburg. Multiple fire departments, including East Stroudsburg and Stroud Twp., responded. The fire was contained by 8:30 p.m. One person suffered minor injuries. Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshall and the Red Cross were called in. No word yet on what caused it.

Snow is expected to blanket much of central Pennsylvania through the day today. Snow will likely persist throughout the week, with cold temperatures keeping any accumulation in place. Pennsylvania state offices will be closed today. Essential workers at 24/7 facilities should follow specific instructions from their supervisors.
